Reading Recommendations and Opinions

In Class 4 we LOVE to read!

But do we all enjoy the same types of books?

Throughout the year, I will read various books of different types and genres and from this will write a short review and give my opinions on the book. The children will also have the opportunity to read these and say if they agree with my opinion or if they have a very different one.

Book One
 The House with Chicken Legs

The fantasy genre is actually my absolutely favourite type of book to read so I was very excited about this one. It is about a young girl and her grandma. Inhave to say this story not only has an unusual title but the whole concept is really quite unusual too but at the same time, a little thought provoking. It explores cultural differences  and beliefs regarding death and what happens next .
I got a little angry with the main character in the story (although she couldn't hear me shouting at her )  as I felt she was very selfish in some of her thoughts and actions. I love this though as I enjoy books that bring out real emotion, even if it's anger!

I enjoyed this story and it left me wanting to find out about where the author got her inspiration from if it was based on real ideals and cultural beliefs.

I will give it          ???

What do you think? Agree or Disagree?

Book 2

The Girl with the Lost Smile

I think I would class this as an adventure story although with a surprising twist !
It has a David Williams feel to it, in the way the book looks on the inside.

I instantly understood the idea of the story which made me feel a little sad for the main character as it was about her parents arguing and how this made her feel.

This book contains some great quotes and is a very imaginative way to help children deal with some of the  harder issues of family life.

Overall, I  wouldn't put in high up on my favourite books but I would definitely recommend you giving it a go.
Tell me what YOU think!

 Book 3

Phoenix by SF Said

I really enjoyed this book. It is most definitely classed as science fiction. It was set in space and was full of adventure, danger and intrigue.

Because it was set in space some of the vocabulary and language can seem very technical and unusual. There are lots of names and places that are quite hard to pronounce, but if you can get passed this you will love it.
