History and Geography 2023/2024 -
MEET THE VIKINGS!!
After the October Half Term we started our History focus on the Vikings!!
The children have loved exploring the Vikings and their impact on the history of our country. The children used maps to see where the Vikings invaded and watched clips of the raids that they carried out. We explored fact and fiction as some TV programmes have focused on the Lindisfarne raid and created some inaccuracies. We researched how the Vikings lived, what they would eat and how they behaved so differently to anything our country had seen before. The children then used their DT skills to create their own armour and 'weapons' to plan and carry out our own raid on Class 3. We even took Mrs Brodie hostage into our classroom! What an amazing raid!
We have started September with our Geography lessons focusing on maps and exploring different countries around the world. The children have explored different types of maps and identified different physical and human features of different countries.

Summer Term 1
COVID caused us many issues, one of which was a gap in some Geography based skills and knowledge so, armed with atlas' and a desire to learn, we filled some of these gaps by creating a Kahoot! game to play with our friends, to show case and embed our learning.

Spring Term 2
After learning about how and why the Anglo-Saxons invaded Britan,we then looked at our next set of invaders....... The Vikings

Year 5 have been learning about the chronology of the invasions of Britain by the Anglo-Saxons and The Vikings up to the Infamous battle in 1066 AD.
We researched all era's and found lots of interesting facts about the life and times of Anglo-Saxons and The Vikings and even some for the start of the Norman Era (after the Battle of Hastings).
